Anarchist Plight

[an outline]

Working to reconcile my feelings about institution and anarchy. I dug up that Anarchist Values sheet from the NCSA/MSS conference.  These were listed based on his research:

Anarchist Values:

  • anti-authoritarianism
  • autonomy
  • consensus
  • cooperation
  • decentralization/federation
  • direct action
  • freedom
  • mutual aid
  • solidarity
  • voluntary association

So the three that surprised me and don’t strike me as anarchist are consensus (this would imply letting the majority vote rule… both good [democracy] and bad [white people rule black people etc…], cooperation (isn’t anarchy about being different from everyone and rebelling non-stop?), and solidarity (same as before, but how do you get solidarity between people who make it their mission in life to disagree and challenge?).

So my major issues with is would be organizational agency (yes, going moderate here, somewhere between everyone is on their own and everyone is a cog in the system – that’s my ideal grouping/agency model), logistics in leadership (I’ve had more than enough experience in leadership to teach me that motivation and capability are crucial and not everyone has those things in all ways.  Sometimes for the sake of organizations working [big ones] you need to give power to someone motivated and capable enough to use it right), assumptions of the anarchist values (that those engaging are capable, motivated, and educated, which is not a fair assumption), the play of autonomy vs. solidarity, and how to actually realistically implement anarchy outside of the war/chaos/terrorism-run-world model.

Oh also, bullshit discussion like this instead of action – which we can both agree.  It’s okay, I’ll be helping Amanda in a few minutes – a definitive action that requires almost no negotiation between myself and other people with too many opinions to determine if it ought to happen J
